Our 2022 Free Roof Giveaway Winner Announced!
We’re proud to announce that Jan Van Dalen, of Easton, Maryland, is our pick for our 2022 free roof giveaway! Mid-Shore Exteriors, with our partners GAF, Universal Supply and Shore Waste, have teamed up to give Jan the brand-new roof he needed! This is our third year in a row hosting a free roof giveaway to give back to the community that has sustained us for nearly 20 years!
While we received countless worthy applications from so many deserving families in our community, the entry submitted on behalf of Jan really stood out to us. Hearing how Jan had faced numerous medical challenges in recent years – but never lost his positive attitude – made everyone at Mid-Shore feel like he was the right choice!
Jan’s Remarkable Story
A few years ago, Jan had a serious accident and partially lost the use of his right arm and hand. In addition, he has a chronic blood disorder that often leaves him in pain. Although he has hefty medical bills as a result, he never lets any of it get him down. While Jan’s road has not always been easy and he has struggled with some bad luck, everyone around him notices and is impressed by his positive attitude. He still goes to church, and he always has time to help others – despite his own troubles.
That’s why his employer and his coworkers felt so strongly that they wrote a letter to us nominating Jan for a new roof. His old roof was 30+ years old and in bad shape. He had no way to afford a new one.
We feel so glad to have been able to meet Jan and give him a brand-new roof that will take one challenge off his plate!
Raising Money for Peggy Brooks
There’s one other community member that we’d like to take some time to recognize and request support for here as well. During the course of our giveaway, we received several nominations on behalf of Peggy Brooks of Talbot County. Peggy spent over 20 years in the Talbot County school system working with children with special needs.
While her home needs a new roof as well as other essential upgrades, her house is not structurally sound enough to be able to receive a new roof at this time. Before that can be done, Peggy’s home needs framing, carpentry, drywall work, and mold remediation. That’s why we started a GoFundMe and are raising money and awareness about this wonderful community member in need!
