Roofing FAQs Answered by a Local Expert
The most common things homeowners ask us are about the experience of having a roof replaced, how disruptive it is, and how much a new roof costs. If you need more in-depth answers than what we have below, please feel free to reach out to our team. These are the most common roofing FAQs and detailed answers to each:
Can you live in your house while the roof is being replaced?
Yes, absolutely! It is extremely rare for someone to get a hotel during a roof replacement. While there will be noise, there is very little other disruption. Very rarely, a small amount of debris may fall from the ceiling. Most people tell us that having a roof replacement is actually much less distracting than other interior home renovation projects.
How long does it take to replace a roof?
Like we mentioned above, an average roof replacement takes either one or two days. However, the project can stretch as far as three or four days. The main factors that determine how long it takes to replace a roof are the overall size of the roof and any complex detailed work on your specific roof.
Do the roofers need to be able to go into my house?
Another common question we get, many people want to know if our crews will need access to the inside of their homes or if they even need to be at home themselves. In the vast majority of cases, our roofers will never need to have access to the inside of your house so you definitely don’t need to be home.
Does roofing generate any smells?
Some homeowners who have sensitivity to chemicals ask us if there will be any smells or odors from the installation. Our residential roof replacement process does not require any high-strength industrial glues, so no smells or fumes will be a problem. In order to keep our shingles in place, our crews use six nails per shingle (industry average is three) and don’t rely on high-odor glues.
How should I prepare for getting a new roof?
In general, there isn’t much you need to do to prepare for our crews. The main thing we recommend is that you take pictures or belongings of great value off the walls and move other valuables away from the walls. While it may not necessary, it is better safe than sorry.
Can my homeowner’s insurance cover roof replacement?
That is a great question, with a complex answer. Get all of the key details about a roof repair insurance claim right here.
Will getting a new roof make a mess in my yard?
We completely understand this concern. While you may need a new roof, you certainly don’t want to have a huge mess in your yard after we’re gone. That’s why we offer a new roof, no-mess guarantee. At Mid-Shore Exteriors, providing exceptional service means leaving nothing behind – meaning no nails, shingle, or other debris will be left in your yard.
We accomplish this by using a roofer buggy which catches and stores all debris from the roof tear-off. After we’re finished, we begin our detailed cleaning steps, complete with a magnet we run across your yard to pick up ANY loose nails. Plus, In case you were wondering, the roofer buggy has ultra-wide tires which means it won’t even leave tire marks on your lawn! Simply put, we treat your home like our home – and we leave absolutely nothing behind.
